Directions: 1.Visit http://www.history.com/topics/black-history/civil-rights-movement to learn more about civil rights. 2.Use a word document to create your newspaper. 3.Include pictures and a short article about one of the events that you have researched making sure it is able to be read with at least 2 references 4.Include a reference page on another sheet APA format. 5.Save and print your newspaper and reference page
Assessment: You will be given 25 points for creativity on design of paper (including pictures and layout). 25 points on content of article. 25 points for citing your research in your article and 25 on grammar and spelling.
Row 2 Objective: You are a free person meeting a newly freed slave just after the civil war. Tell this person you have just met about your life and what they can expect as a newly free person what their life might be like. Student Role: You are a story teller and a free person who had once been a slave Audience: A newly freed slave or many. Format: A story done on a podcast Topic: As a slave that has had their freedom for a while. Tell a newly freed slave about the world they are moving into and what they can expect.
Directions: Because many slaves during the civil war lacked an education and could not read they shared stories by telling them. In this assignment you will create a podcast of an older freed person to a younger, newly freed person about life outside of being a slave. You will describe your experience to them to prepare for this assignment: http://www.civilwar.org/education/history/civil-war-overview/slavery.html 1.Review what life was like for both free and non-free African Americans during this time. 2.Create a brainstorm of what the life you would have led have been like, be creative. 3.Create a script of the story you would want to tell to this person or people. 4.Record your podcast and save as Voki’s voice.
Assessment: Total points possible 100. This assignment will be broken up into 4 parts that can be graded each part is worth 25 points. Part one is brainstorm this must be turned in, part 2 is your script, part 3 is your pod cast, and part 4 is your research show me what you used to learn about this time period of U.S. History.
Row 3 Objective: Document and explore travel west in early America. Student Role: Pioneer Audience: Family Format: Diary Topic: You are early American explorers heading west to see what is there. Keep a diary of what you experienced as you traveled across America.
Directions:
1.Review: http://www.america101.us/trail/Hardships.html to understand the hardships that pioneers faced as they traveled. 2.Create a journal either by hand or on a computer. 3.Research more about dangers in travel west, how they traveled and the things they would need to make a safe journey keep records of your research 4.Write diary entries talking about where you are, what hardships you have encountered, new things you would have seen and major events that happened to your family biased on things that have happened to other pioneers during their travels. Create at least 10 entries of 100 words per entry. 5.Print and turn in work on the given date.
Assessment: Research for this project will be worth 50 points. Show where you got your information from with a reference page (of at least 3) and cite in your work. Diary will be worth another 50 points, spelling is not important in this assignment if hand written.
